Gastvortrag: Pronoun interpretation and processing in Romance and Germanic languages - Dr. Margreet Vogelzang
21. Januar 2019
Am 22.01.19 wird Dr. Margreet Vogelzang (Universität Oldenburg) im Institut für Romanistik einen Vortrag zum Thema Pronoun interpretation and processing in Romance and Germanic languages halten. Der Vortrag findet von 18:00 - 19:30 Uhr im Ü35 Raum 11034 statt.
Abstract:
Referring expressions such as pronouns are very frequent in our daily language use. What is special about these forms is that they are, at least some of the time, open to interpretation, and can therefore be misunderstood. Moreover, some forms seem to be difficult to learn for children in some languages (e.g., Dutch and English), but not in others (e.g., Italian and German). There have even been differences found in pronoun interpretation and processing between Spanish and Italian, two romance languages which are seemingly similar in their pronominal structure. In this talk, I will provide an overview of my experimental research on pronouns processing. We will discuss what factors contribute to an easy understanding of pronouns, and how differences between languages play a role in this.
